To provide a learning opportunity from an internationally well-renowned researcher, the Department of Accounting and Finance organized a Seminar on “Dominant Accounting Thoughts and Recent Developments in Accounting Standards Worldwide: A Closer Look”. The resource speaker was Dr. AKM Waresul Karim, who is an Associate Professor of Accounting at Alabama A & M University. The seminar was held on 24th July 2019 and the main target audiences were the students of MBA. After a formal introduction and welcome speech provided by Mohammad Faridul Alam, Associate Professor and Head of Department of Accounting, the speaker started his presentation. The resource person initially brought forward the profound flaws in current accounting practices indicating how many current accounting rules fail to capture the underlying economics of a wide range of significant transactions undertaken by organizations. Thus it highlighted the need to resolve those pressing recognition and measurement issues and proposes a new, multi-column, balance sheet that will embody the benefits of both historical cost and fair value bases without suffering from the flaws of either. The students of MBA got a much in-depth understanding of the topic of discussion. At the end of the program, Professor Dr. Charles C. Villanueva, Vice President, Academics and Dean Faculty of Business Administration expressed his vote of thanks to the guest speaker and presented with Certificate of Appreciation. This seminar was organized & coordinated by Dr. Nisar Ahmed, Professor & Director, MBA program. Department of Accounting and Finance extends its profound thanks to the Management of the University and the concerned faculties for providing valuable support to make the seminar a memorable event for the participants.
