The contemporary business environment demands a strong link between the corporate sector and academia. The universities produce graduates to join the labor market at large, and the companies in return need universities to come up with programs which cater to their overall needs.
AIUB has always been a step ahead as compared to other institutions. We have always maintained a strong link with industry leaders and managers and from time to time have asked for their feedback to be incorporated in our programs. Keeping this mindset in view, from the Department of Management, a guest from the corporate sector was invited to be a guest lecturer in the class of Strategic Management on November 12, 2018. The guest was Mr. Shamim Reza Shuvo, Assistant Manager – HR from Grameen UNIQLO, which is the social business initiative of Asia’s N0#1 and World’s No#3 apparel company, Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. which runs many global brands such as UNIQLO, GU, Theory etc.
Mr. Shuvo discussed that we have moved into an era where traditional support services – HR, Finance, IT, Administration, Legal etc. – are under increasing daily pressure to produce a more direct impact on business results. He further explained that a strategy is an articulated plan that enables an organization to make optimum use of its people, resources and investments in order to achieve its goals and objectives and what it means for HR practitioners to connect their HR strategies to those of the business leaders they serve.
It was a very fruitful session and the students enjoyed it thoroughly as the speaker had a very accessible attitude and persona. The session was followed by a Q & A round. At the end, coordinator of the Department of Management & HRM, Ms. Samia Shabnaz, Senior Assistant Professor, delivered a vote of thanks and presented the guests with the souvenir. The program was arranged and organized by Ms. Hafsa Maryam, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Management & HRM.
